The IJN Battleship Haruna, named after Mount Haruna, was a warship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War I and World War II. Designed by the British naval engineer George Thurston, she was the fourth and last battlecruiser of the Kongō class, among the most heavily armed ships in any navy when built. Laid down in 1912 at the Kawasaki Shipyards in Kobe, Haruna was formally commissioned in 1915.

During her life, Haruna underwent two major reconstructions. On the eve of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she sailed as part of the Southern Force in preparation for the Battle of Singapore. In 1945, Haruna was transferred to Kure Naval Base, where she was sunk by aircraft of Task Force 38 on 28 July 1945.

The features of this detailed model include a faithful reproduction of the actual ship's hull and superstructure, molded in gray and red, containing 165 pieces, and including waterslide decals with authentic markings, as well as an illustrated assembly guide.

In 1920, during gunnery drills, an explosion destroyed one of Haruna's guns, damaged the gun turret, and killed seven men. Despite this incident, the Haruna remained a formidable warship, playing a significant role in the Pacific theater of World War II.

The Kongō-class battlecruisers, of which the Haruna was the fourth and final vessel, were renowned for their impressive firepower and speed. When they were built, they were among the most heavily armed ships in any navy, a testament to the engineering prowess that went into their design and construction.

The Haruna's journey through the tumultuous years of the early 20th century is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the Imperial Japanese Navy. From her commissioning in 1915 to her ultimate demise in 1945, the Haruna played a crucial role in the nation's naval strategy, undergoing significant modernizations to keep pace with the changing tides of warfare.

This detailed model of the IJN Battleship Haruna, with its faithful recreation of the ship's distinctive features and markings, offers a glimpse into the rich history of this iconic warship. The 165-piece model, complete with waterslide decals and an illustrated assembly guide, allows enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the captivating story of the Haruna, a vessel that left an indelible mark on the annals of naval history.
